RPM to g (RCF) Calculator

RCF = 1.118 × 10⁻⁵ × r (cm) × RPM². Enter the rotor radius plus either speed or g-force.

Type RPM or × g.

FAQ

What is the formula for converting RPM to g (RCF)?

RCF = 1.118 × 10⁻⁵ × r × RPM², where r is the rotor radius in centimeters (measured from the center of the rotor to the bottom of the tube).

How do I convert g-force to RPM?

RPM = √(RCF ÷ (1.118 × 10⁻⁵ × r)).

Why do protocols specify × g instead of RPM?

The same RPM produces different forces in rotors of different sizes. RCF (× g) is the force the sample actually experiences, so it transfers between centrifuges.

Which radius should I use?

Use the maximum radius (r max) listed in your rotor manual, unless the protocol specifies r avg or r min.
