Molarity Calculator

mass (g) = concentration (mol/L) × volume (L) × molecular weight (g/mol). Fill in any three fields, leave one blank.

Worked example

To make 10 mL of a 2 mM solution of a compound with MW 500 g/mol: 0.002 mol/L × 0.010 L × 500 g/mol = 0.010 g = 10 mg.

Concentration unit cheat sheet

Need the MW of a peptide? Use the peptide molecular weight calculator. Diluting a stock? Use the dilution calculator (C1V1 = C2V2).

FAQ

What is the molarity formula?

Molarity (M, mol/L) = moles of solute ÷ liters of solution, and moles = mass (g) ÷ molecular weight (g/mol). So mass (g) = M × volume (L) × MW.

How do I convert mg/mL to µM?

µM = (mg/mL) ÷ MW (g/mol) × 1,000,000. Example: 1 mg/mL of a 1,000 g/mol compound is 1,000 µM (1 mM).

How do I convert µM to mg/mL?

mg/mL = µM × MW ÷ 1,000,000.

Where do I find the molecular weight?

On the product label or certificate of analysis. For a peptide you can calculate it from the sequence with the peptide molecular weight calculator.
